FC Porto may be about to lose 19-year-old playmaker Anderson to Manchester United FC but they have swooped to sign another Brazilian prospect.

Dream move
Promising midfielder Fernando, who turns 20 in July, is a product of the Vila Nova FC youth academy and has committed himself to Porto until 2012. "I'm fulfilling a dream," Fernando said. "I'm still young but I wanted to go to Europe. Porto is a great club. I have come to Europe to learn and mature as a player." Fernando was a member of the Brazil side that triumphed at the recent South American Under-20 Championship in Paraguay. Another compatriot, left-back Lino, became Porto's first signing of the summer earlier this week, joining from Liga rivals A. Académica de Coimbra. As Portuguese champions, Porto will start their 2007/08 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
