Emerson answers APOEL call

Members

Former AEK Athens FC favourite Emerson is among three new recruits to have joined Cypriot champions APOEL FC ahead of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League.

Emerson experience
After the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Nuno Morais from Chelsea FC, coach Marinos Ouzounides has swooped for Emerson, fellow Brazilian Marcos Tavares and Macedonian goalkeeper Jane Nikoloski in a bid to strengthen resources for next season. The 35-year-old Emerson, who has penned a one-year deal, has UEFA Champions League experience in abundance having previously played in the competition for FC Porto, RC Deportivo La Coruña and AEK, whom he joined in January 2006.

Veteran goalkeeper
Veteran 33-year-old goalkeeper Nikoloski began his career at F.Y.R. Macedonia outfit FK Sloga Jugomagnat before moving to Bulgarian side PFC Slavia Sofia in the 2001/02 season, where he spent two years. A brief spell in Iranian football with Persepolis FC preceded 42 appearances in Croatia's Prva Liga with NK Slaven Koprivnika. The well-travelled custodian has agreed to stay at APOEL until summer 2009, while former Grêmio FBPA forward Tavares, 23, who impressed Ouzounides on trial during a series of pre-season friendlies in Austria, has signed a three-year deal with the Nicosia club.
