Saša Petrović has been named coach of Montenegrin league runners-up FK Budućnost Podgorica as they prepare for action in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup.

New coach
Club director Žarko Vukčević confirmed the 40-year-old former Budućnost and OFK Beograd goalkeeper would lead the capital side into the new season. The former FK Kom coach had been linked with the job following Branislav Milačić's resignation in March but the club decided not to make his appointment until after the end of the season, leaving Božo Vuković in charge.

Local titans
"I am delighted because I have the chance to coach the biggest Montenegrin club," said Petrović. "I know the club's aim is to win a title next season but I am not afraid. On the contrary, this is a great opportunity for me and for the players too after a disapointing season." Budućnost finished two points adrift of FK Zeta at the end of the inaugural Montenegrin campaign.

European campaign
Budućnost will now have the chance to play European football after earning a place in the first qualifying round of next season's UEFA Cup. "First of all, we need to made a good impression on the European stage," said Petrović. "I think we could make it to the second qualifying round – that would be a good result to start with."
