One-year contract
Klasnić's current deal was due to run out at the end of the month but Bremen held true to the promise they made shortly after the striker was diagnosed with a kidney problem that required a transplant and offered the 27-year old a one-year extension. "I keep reading that Bremen haven't signed any new superstars, but here I am," joked Klasnić. "I am just not fit yet. Once I am fit, I am sure that I can help Bremen return to the very top."
Uncertain future
It is not known yet exactly how long Klasnić, who had to undergo a second transplant in March after the failure of the first operation in November, will remain on the sidelines but he is wary of rushing back too soon. "I have been back in training for six weeks now, but the kind of training I am doing doesn't have much to do with what my team-mates are doing, " he said. "I still have to be very careful." Klasnić will not travel with the squad who leave for their pre-season training camp in Norderney on Monday. "It is my goal to be back to full team training on the opening day of the season, but maybe it will be Matchday 5 or even ten," he explained.
