Portsmouth FC have made their third summer signing with a club-record transfer fee paid to acquire Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari from Udinese Calcio.

Five-year deal
The 22-year-old, who has agreed a five-year contract after his reported €10.2m switch, had been with the Serie A outfit since 2002, making his debut that November. He quickly became an established performer in the Italian top flight and gained more attention with his displays at the 2006 FIFA World Cup alongside Michael Essien and Stephen Appiah.

'Delighted'
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp said: "We tried to get him in the last two transfer windows but Udinese didn't want to sell, so we are delighted he's finally coming to Fratton Park." Muntari joins versatile Iceland defender Hermann Hreidarsson and French centre-back Sylvain Distin as new recruits of the south-coast team who finished ninth in the English Premier League.
