AEK Athens FC have signed Argentinian international defender Rodolfo Arruabarrena on a two-year contract from Villarreal CF.

European hero
The 31-year-old left-back, whose deal includes the option of a further season, has been with the Spanish side since 2000, making 217 Primera División appearances and scoring eleven goals. He also played a pivotal role in their run to last year's UEFA Champions League semi-finals with goals against Rangers FC and FC Internazionale Milano.

One in, one out
"I'm delighted to sign for AEK. I know they are a club with great history who have come a long way in recent years," the former CA Boca Juniors man said. "They made a good impression in this season's UEFA Champions League. My aim is to help them return to the competition and to try our best to win the league next term." AEK are certain to finish in second place in Greece with one round of matches remaining, and will therefore enter the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. The Athens outfit have also announced the departure of another Argentinian full-back, 27-year-old Martin Pautasso, who joined last summer from Club Atlético Independiente and has featured in 15 Super League games.
