Felix Magath has reached agreement with Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg to become their English-style boss, acting as sporting manager as well as head coach.

Three-year deal
The 53-year-old will have a contract until summer 2010 and will be responsible for the club's entire football department, including the youth academy. Magath won back-to-back doubles with FC Bayern München in 2005 and 2006 but was sacked by the Bavarian giants in January.

'Better future'
"I see potential in Wolfsburg. I want to use my experience to guide the team to a better future," Magath said. The Lower Saxony outfit finished 15th to avoid relegation by one place and three points. The former Germany midfielder, a European Champion Clubs' Cup winner with Hamburger SV in 1983, operated as a traditional manager when steering VfB Stuttgart into the UEFA Champions League in 2003/04. "We have signed one of the most successful people in German football," said chairman Hans Dieter Pötsch.
