West Ham are looking to avoid relegation and could take a significant step towards safety with a win at fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic FC tomorrow.
Record fine
The London club were fined €8m today, but spared a points deduction, after the Premiership authorities punished them for a breach of ownership rules over their signings of Argentinian internationals Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano last August. The fine, a record in English football, came as a result of the league’s rules over third-party ownership of the two players. Mascherano has since joined Liverpool FC.
