Bordeaux end Reims' cup dreams

Members

FC Girondins de Bordeaux reached the French League Cup final after ending the dreams of Stade de Reims Champagne with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday night.

Bordeaux dominant
Despite the absence of key players including France midfielders Julien Faubert and Rio Antonio Mavuba, Bordeaux dominated the match and deservedly took the lead through left-back Florian Marange's fierce 20-metre strike, which went in off Reims goalkeeper Johan Liébus. The visitors doubled their advantage when Jean-Claude Darcheville converted a penalty earned by Marouane Chamakh a quarter of an hour from the end.

Frenetic finish
Two-times European Champion Clubs' Cup finalists Reims pulled a goal back four minutes from time when David Jemmali put through his own net and Bordeaux finished the match with ten men after Franck Jurietti was sent off for a late tackle. Les Girondins will meet the winners of Wednesday's encounter between Olympique Lyonnais and Le Mans UC 72 in the Stade de France final on 31 March, with a place in the first round of next season's UEFA Cup at stake. Bordeaux are through to the Round of 32 of this season's competition, and will meet CA Osasuna of Spain next month.
