Veteran Brazilian midfielder Marcelinho has returned to the Bundesliga to sign for VfL Wolfsburg after just six months in Turkey with Trabzonspor.

'Great day'
The 31-year-old moved to the Black Sea club last summer from Hertha BSC Berlin but has agreed to head back to Germany in a €2.75m switch after scoring just twice in 17 league games. He said: "This is a great day. I really wanted to return to the Bundesliga. I am sure that I will be challenging with Wolfsburg." The Brazilian has agreed a deal that will keep him at the club until summer 2009.

'Big step'
Wolfsburg coach Klaus Augenthaler said: "He was on the top of our shortlist. He is dangerous in front of goal and dead-ball situations. His signing is a big step forward. I am glad that the deal has gone through, the signing proves that big name players are prepared to play for Wolfsburg." Marcelinho, capped five times by Brazil, scored 65 goals in 155 league appearances for Hertha between 2002 and 2005, twice being voted the Bundesliga's top player in that time.
