Fernández ruled out for Racing

Real Racing Club Santander will be without defender Luis Fernández for three months after he damaged cartilage in his right knee.

Surgery required
The club's medical team have confirmed that the 34-year-old will be out action until at least March after tests on Thursday revealed that he would require surgery to repair the injury. Fernández was substituted in the 32nd minute of the Cantabrian team's victory over Villarreal CF in midweek after twisting his knee. The left-sided full-back has missed only one game for Racing this season having rejoined the club from Real Betis Balompié during the summer.
