Article body
FC Zenit St. Petersburg have broken the Russian domestic transfer record for the second time this close season with the €7m purchase of 25-year-old Argentinian forward Alejandro Dominguez from FC Rubin Kazan
New record
Zenit set the previous record when they paid FC Tom Tomsk a reported €5m for Russia international Pavel Pogrebnyak a month ago. But the ambitious club, who finished fourth in the Premier-Liga this season, have taken advantage of a buy-out clause in Dominguez's contract, which had 12 months to run. He struck 13 goals in the 2006 season to give Rubin fifth place, and has made 63 appearances in the Russian top-flight since his 2004 switch from CA River Plate.
Three-year deal
According to Zenit sporting director Konstantin Sarsania, Dominguez is to sign a three-year deal once he returns from holiday in Argentina. With a reported salary close to €2m per year, this will make Dominguez - who helped Argentina win the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup - the second highest paid Zenit player after Andrei Arshavin.
