Guerrero gets Hamburg off mark

Members

Substitute José Paolo Guerrero struck twice to give Hamburger SV a 2-1 victory at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the first win of the season for Thomas Doll's side.

Goal gift
A mix-up between goalkeeper Sascha Kirschstein and defender Thimothée Atouba handed Andriy Voronin an easy chance to put Leverkusen ahead after 40 minutes and the home side had chances to increase their lead before Hamburg hit back. Guerrero came on to replace Danijel Ljuboja in the 70th minute and within 60 seconds the former FC Bayern München forward had scored, stroking in a Piotr Trochowski cross from 12 metres out. The Peruvian international then struck the winner from a Juan Pablo Sorín cross in the 86th minute.

Welcome win
Hamburg, who suffered their third defeat in three UEFA Champions League games in midweek, climbed from second bottom in the Bundesliga to 13th on eight points. Werder Bremen are top thanks to their 3-1 win at home to champions Bayern on Saturday.

Nürnberg held
Elsewhere on Sunday, 1. FC Nürnberg missed the chance to move into the top three when they were held to a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt. The home side went ahead in the fourth minute when Ioannis Amanatidis converted a penalty but Frankfurt's lead lasted only a minute as Ivan Saenko's shot was deflected in. Javier Pinola's free-kick from 25 metres took a deflection to give Nürnberg the lead five minutes after the break and Frankfurt hit back seven minutes later through Albert Streit as his 30-metre free-kick evaded everyone before drifting in at the far post. The point took Nürnberg up to fifth place on 12 points.
