Vėtra victory
Wednesday's 1-0 win against FK Vėtra in Vilnius was enough to take Kaunas beyond the reach of second-placed FK Ekranas, with 31-year-old Polish forward Arkadiusz Klimek scoring the only goal from a corner after 32 minutes. "Good preparation allowed us to take the lead early in the campaign," said Eugenijus Riabovas, who took over as coach from Eduard Malofeev in mid-season. "After a dip in September we rallied and proved our superiority once again."

Ekranas stumble
Closest rivals Ekranas suffered another misfire after Saturday's loss against FK Sūduva in the Lithuanian Cup final, recording their first defeat by FK Vilnius. Brazilian Silva Meller put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after 21 minutes, before Aurimas Kucys made it 2-0 with an injury-time own goal. That left Kaunas with a 15-point advantage over the defending champions.
