FC Internazionale Milano moved to the top of Serie A despite a late fightback from AC Chievo Verona at the San Siro while AS Roma stayed second thanks to an emphatic away win.

Four-goal flurries
The Nerazzurri seemed set for a straightforward victory after Hernán Crespo scored twice and Dejan Stanković and Walter Samuel once apiece to give Roberto Mancini's side a four-goal cushion. However, three goals in the last 15 minutes from Sergio Pellissier, Simone Tiribocchi and Matteo Brighi set up a nervous finish although the hosts held on to take their total to ten points from four matches, one point more than Roma. The capital club thrashed Parma FC 4-0 on their travels, Simone Perrotta adding to Vincenzo Montella's fifth-minute goal in first-half stoppage time. Second-half strikes from Aleandro Rosi and Alberto Aquilani ensured the Giallorossi go into Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie at Valencia CF in high spirits.

Palermo surprise
US Città di Palermo also have nine points, though the Sicilian team's 100 per cent start to the season was ended by a surprise 2-0 defeat at Empoli FC. Franco Brienza missed a 25th-minute penalty and Luca Saudati scored three minutes later before Sergio Almirón added another ten minutes after the restart. Udinese Calcio, meanwhile, edged past visitors ACF Fiorentina courtesy of Vincenzo Iaquinta's solitary 40th-minute effort at the Stadio Friuli. S.S. Lazio also managed victory against Atalanta BC thanks to Sebastiano Siviglia's 69th-minute clincher while Sunday's other games ended in draws. Ascoli Calcio 1898 and UC Sampdoria finished level at 1-1 as did Reggina Calcio and Torino FC, while AC Siena and Cagliari Calcio battled out a stalemate. On Saturday, AC Milan were also held 0-0 at AS Livorno Calcio and the derby between Calcio Catania and FC Messina Peloro was a 2-2 draw.
