Article body
Difficult task
The team from Skopje had recorded their best-ever performance in reaching this stage of the competition but it will take something special to turn the tie around on home soil in a fortnight after they were largely outplayed in France. Rabotnicki barely ventured past the halfway line and their one opportunity, a 30-metre free-kick by Stojance Ignatov, was easily saved by Tony Sylva.
Pacovski busy
All the action was focused on Tome Pacovski's goal at the other end, though he kept the scores level for almost an hour. The international keeper saved the day a couple of times as Rabotnicki struggled to cope with an unusual two-striker system set by Lille coach Claude Puel. New signings Michel Bastos and Souleymane Youla saw most of the half-dozen chances that were created in the first 45 minutes, but could not find the breakthrough.
Keita creates
The second half started with Kader Keita hitting the crossbar before his low cross led to the opener, an own goal forced in by the unfortunate Dalibor Jovanovski in the 58th minute. Two more goals followed in the next 12 minutes as Keita earned a penalty after being fouled by Metodija Stepanovski, and Bastos converted from the spot. French Under-21 international Nicolas Fauvergue then made it three with a header.
