Two goals from Ruslan Rotan helped FC Dynamo Kyiv underline their superiority against Latvian champions FHK Liepajas Metalurgs and set up a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round meeting with Fenerbahçe SK.
Tournament debuts
Leading 4-1 from the first leg, coach Anatoli Demianenko decided to give two Dynamo players their UEFA Champions League debuts with goalkeeper Olexandr Rybka starting in place of Olexandr Shovkovskiy and Vitaliy Mandzyuk coming on for central defender Rodolfo in the second half.
Individual effort
Neither Maris Verpakovskis nor his strike partner Maksim Shatskikh got on the scoresheet but Dynamo's midfielders took up the slack with Rotan opening their account after 37 minutes after a superb run from Florin Cernat. After the break, Brazilian Carlos Corrêa doubled their advantage with an individual effort before Serhiy Rebrov headed a third from Valentin Belkevich's corner.
Metalurgs misses
Arturas Rimkevicius had two chances to pull a goal back for Metalurgs but twice miscued the ball over from close range, and Benjaminas Zelkevicius's side were made to pay for their profligacy as Rotan scored his side's eighth goal of the tie in the closing minutes.
