'Stay calm'
Francisco Pernía, the Cantabrian outfit's president, confirmed the appointment in the wake of López Caro's decision to join Levante UD after just five weeks in charge. Portugal, who had been working with Real Madrid CF's B team, has been given a one-year contract with an option for a further 12 months if all goes well at El Sardinero. "Last week, López Caro explained to me that he did not feel comfortable," Pernía said when asked about the unexpected coaching change. "I want everyone to stay calm because I am sure Portugal will bring us many glorious evenings here."
