Stade Rennais FC have named general manager Pierre Dréossi as their new coach following Laszlo Bölöni's decision to take over at AS Monaco FC.
Dual role
The 47-year-old former defender will assume a dual role at the French team having been appointed general manager in 2002. Assistant Philippe Redon will work alongside him, as he has the necessary coaching qualifications, together with Michel Sorin. Rennes narrowly missed out on European qualification in 2005/06, finishing seventh in Ligue 1.
Internal appointment
"Several plans were considered before we opted for an internal promotion," said a club statement. "This appointment was suggested by [club president] Emmanuel Cueff and Pierre Dréossi. This original solution has been fully approved by [club owners] François and François-Henri Pinault."
