R. Standard de Liège have continued preparations for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round by signing Miguel Areias and Nuno Coelho from FC Porto.

Beira-Mar experience
The 29-year-old left-back Areias has come to Belgium on a one-year loan after spending last season on a similar deal with Porto's local rivals Boavista FC. He started his career with Ovarense FC before spending four seasons at SC Beira-Mar, eventually joining Porto in the summer of 2004.

Permanent option
The 20-year-old Nuno Coelho will also spend the next 12 months in Liege, with the 2005/06 Belgian runners-up able to sign him outright if he proves to be a success. Having started off as a trainee at FC Penafiel, he moved on to Porto at the age of 18. The central defender spent part of last season on loan with FC Maia. The pair's arrival means Standard boast five Portuguese players in their squad.
