Switzerland striker Alexander Frei is to leave French football to sign for Bundesliga club BV Borussia Dortmund on a four-year contract.
Mutual agreement
The 26-year-old will depart Stade Rennais FC for a reported €4m, having scored 46 goals in 100 league matches over three-and-a-half seasons. "We have come to a mutual agreement with the player," said Dortmund press officer Josef Schneck. The former Servette FC forward has been capped 49 times by his country, scoring 27 goals including two in the FIFA World Cup. Dortmund, like Rennes, will not play in European football in the 2006/07 campaign.
Cheyrou to Rennes
Meanwhile, Rennes have signed Liverpool FC midfielder Bruno Cheyrou for an undisclosed fee. The 28-year-old, capped three times by France, has been away from Anfield for two seasons, with loan spells at Olympique de Marseille and FC Girondins de Bordeaux. He made 48 appearances for Liverpool after joining in 2002.
