Dutchman Dick Advocaat has been named as the new coach of FC Zenit St. Petersburg, signing an initial 18-month contract with the Russian club with the option of a further year.

Korean disappointment
Advocaat stepped down as coach of Korea Republic after they failed to make it to the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup, finishing behind Switzerland and France in Group G in Germany. The 58-year-old is now expected to arrive in St Petersburg later on Monday with a view to taking charge of his first Russian Premier League match on Thursday.

Assistant appointed
Advocaat, who has also previously been in charge of the Dutch national team, PSV Eindhoven and Rangers FC, replaces Vlastimíl Petržela, who stepped down last month following a disappointing run of league results. The club named Dutchman Cor Pot as their new assistant coach earlier this month, paving the way for the arrival of his fellow countryman.
