RCD Mallorca have agreed to take Maxi López on loan from FC Barcelona, although the Spanish champions are keen to retain his services in the long term.

RCD Mallorca have reached an agreement to take Maxi López on loan from FC Barcelona.

Games needed
The 22-year-old Argentinian forward will play at the Son Moix outfit for the 2006/07 campaign, but Barça have refused to include an option for Mallorca to make the move permanent next summer. Maxi was told by the Blaugrana's technical secretary Aitor 'Txiki' Beguiristain that he needed regular football in the coming season.

Few opportunities
After joining Barcelona from CA River Plate in January 2005, the powerful striker has had few opportunities to impress. He made eight league appearances in the second half of the 2004/05 campaign and last term he featured in six games, starting just two, although he did score in the Copa del Rey against CD Zamora. Maxi's signing is the second piece of summer business between Mallorca and Barça, after defender Fernando Navarro made his loan switch to the Balearic club a full-time deal.
