Up the pecking order
The 23-year-old's deal was due to expire in summer 2008 but he is now committed to the club until 2010. Valverde has primarily been a reserve in recent seasons, making just two Ligue 1 appearances in the last three campaigns. However, with 32-year-old second-choice custodian Frédéric Roux keen to move elsewhere to get regular football after five years at Bordeaux, Valverde may find himself as Ulrich Ramé's deputy. Bordeaux will compete in the group stage of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League after finishing second in Ligue 1.
