Werder Bremen clinched an automatic place in next season's UEFA Champions League group stage with a 2-1 win away against rivals Hamburger SV on the final day of the Bundesliga season to finish second. Hamburg drop down to third, meaning they must enter the competition in the qualifying rounds.
Klose feat
Ivan Klasnić opened the scoring before Sergej Barbarez brought Hamburg level on the hour mark. But German international striker Miroslav Klose had the final say, heading the winner with 18 minutes remaining. Klose tops the league's scoring charts with 25 goals, four ahead of Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Dimitar Berbatov. FC Schalke 04 and Leverkusen confirmed their UEFA Cup places in fourth and fifth, with a 3-2 win against VfB Stuttgart and a 2-2 draw with Hannover 96 respectively. They are joined in Europe by Cup finalists Eintracht Frankfurt.
Kaiserlautern drop
VfL Wolfsburg will be playing top-flight football next season after a 2-2 draw in their relegation showdown with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, who needed a win to beat the drop. Halil Altintop put the visitors in front, before Cédric Makiadi equalised for Wolfsburg. Diego Klimowicz gave the hosts a precious 2-1 lead, meaning Kaiserlsautern went down despite Marcel Ziemer's late goal.
Koller double
Champions FC Bayern München ended the season with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Borussia Dortmund that saw two goals for Dortmund's towering striker Jan Koller, who has recently returned from a cruciate knee ligament injury. Bayern's goals came from Roy Makaay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Ballack in possibly his final league game for the Bavarian giants.
Köln's final win
Relegated MSV Duisburg claimed a goalless draw against 1. FSV Mainz 05, while 1. FC Köln waved goodbye to first division action with a 4-2 win against DSC Arminia Bielefeld. Elsewhere, 1. FC Nürnberg beat Hertha BSC Berlin 2-1.
