Bundesliga runners-up Werder Bremen have signed Cameroonian international left-back Pierre Womé from Italian giants FC Internazionale Milano.

Free transfer
The 27-year-old joins the northern German side on a free transfer, having agreed a contract until 2008. "He is exactly the type of player we have been looking for, and he brings a lot of experience into our team," said Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs, whose club have qualified for the group stage of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League.

Cameroon successes
Capped 67 times by his country, Womé was a member of the Cameroon sides that triumphed at the 2002 African Cup of Nations and the 2000 Olympics. The defender also draws on plenty of club experience, having played for Italy's Vicenza Calcio, AS Lucchese, AS Roma and Bologna FC as well as England's Fulham FC and Spanish outfit RCD Espanyol.
