Promising youngster
The 21-year-old has already been capped 14 times for Brazil and is rated as one of his nation's most exciting young talents. He has signed a four-year contract with Bremen which will expire in June 2010, having chosen the German side over competition from clubs in Spain, Italy and England.
'Extraordinary abilities'
Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs was delighted with his side's new acquisition, saying: "Diego has extraordinary abilities". Diego is the club's second signing of the summer following Pierre Womé's arrival from FC Internazionale Milano. They start the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
Porto career
Diego joined Porto from Santos FC in July 2004 for a fee of around €7m. He made 18 Liga appearances as the side won the title this season, and played in four of their UEFA Champions League games, scoring once against FC Artmedia.
