Cup glory
Muñoz, a former FC Barcelona and Spain midfielder, arrived at La Romareda in January 2004, replacing Paco Flores, and led the team to Spanish Cup glory with a 3-2 extra-time win against Real Madrid CF later that season. Zaragoza were cup finalists again this term but lost 4-1 to RCD Espanyol, and following an eleventh-placed finish – a third consecutive mid-table placing – the Zaragoza board have exercised a clause in Muñoz's contract to effect a change of coach. "Víctor Muñoz has shown constant professionalism and won the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup here, so on behalf of everyone at the club, I thank him for his work," said director Jerónimo Suárez.
