Article body
R. Excelsior Mouscron reached the Belgian Cup final for only the second time after a 1-1 home draw with R. Charleroi SC secured a 2-1 aggregate victory in their semi-final.
Żewłakow winner
Marcin Żewłakow had scored the only goal of the first leg on 22 March to give Mouscron the advantage, although home goalkeeper Patrice Luzi had to be alert to keep out Serhiy Serebrennikov's header in the first half of the return. At the other end, Adnan Custović might have doubled Mouscron's overall lead but saw his effort strike the crossbar.
Own goal opener
Mouscron finally broke the deadlock on the hour when Patrick Dimbala's cross was diverted into his own goal by Velimir Varga. Charleroi were forced to throw men forward and François Sterchele had an attempt ruled out for offside, before substitute Joseph Akpala equalised nine minutes from time. The visitors were unable to find a second, however, meaning Mouscron will contest their second Belgian Cup final in four seasons, having succumbed 3-1 to Club Brugge KV in 2002.
Standard task
In the other semi-final, Belgian First Division leaders R. Standard de Liège visit KSV Waregem on Wednesday having lost the first leg 2-1 at home. Should Standard turn the tie around, and finish in the top two in the league, Mouscron could find themselves in next season's UEFA Cup with Standard entering the UEFA Champions League.
