KSV Waregem's superb season continued as they held off a fierce comeback from R. Standard de Liège to book a place in the Belgian Cup final on the away-goals rule.
Standard struggle
Leading 2-1 after the first encounter in Liege, Zulte-Waregem spent much of the return on the back foot as Standard piled men forward in search of the two goals they needed to keep their hopes alive. Serhiy Kovalenko's effort was well saved by goalkeeper Pieter Merlier but without their playmaking inspiration Sérgio Conçeicão, who has been suspended for four-and-a-half months following his first-leg dismissal, the Belgian First Division leaders struggled to create meaningful chances.
Onyewu opener
Instead Tim Matthijs and Ibrahim Salou both went close for the home team, and there were just 17 minutes remaining when United States defender Oguchi Onyewu finally made the breakthrough for Standard, heading in Philippe Léonard's cross. A second goal proved elusive, however, as Zulte-Waregem held on to book a place in the final against R. Excelsior Mouscron on 13 May.
