Messina later named the 58-year-old former SSC Napoli coach Giampiero Ventura as Mutti's successor. Mutti had been in charge since the 2003/04 season and guided the club to their first top-flight promotion. Last season they finished seventh in Serie A but find themselves in 18th position this time around, the last relegation slot in the 20-team league, with seven games to play.
