Wiese woes
After his last-minute fumble against Juventus, goalkeeper Tim Wiese saw his troubled week compounded with another mistake leading to Berlin's second-half opener by Kevin-Prince Boateng. Brazilian midfielder Marcelinho and Turkish team-mate Yıldıray Baştürk added further goals to inflict a second home defeat on Bremen, while Hertha helped relieve the pressure on coach Falko Götz with their first victory in 14 games.
Bayern draw blank
The result will have gladdened leaders Bayern, who were held to a goalless draw at VfL Wolfsburg as they failed to make their pressure tell. Nevertheess, with Bremen losing, Felix Magath's team increased their lead at the Bundesliga summit to nine points. The spoils were also shared at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion as UEFA Cup hopefuls VfB Stuttgart and BV Borussia Dortmund played out a goalless draw.
Bielefeld boost
An early goal by DSC Arminia Bielefeld striker Radomir Djalović helped Thomas von Heesen's team to a deserved victory against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, which keeps their UEFA Cup qualification hopes alive. Such ambition is far removed for 1. FSV Mainz 05, but they climbed out of the relegation zone with a 3-0 home win over VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. Michael Thurk opened the scoring in the second half and added his tenth league goal of the season after Mohammed Zidan got the second.
Nürnberg thriller
FC Köln remain glued to the foot of the table after ending up on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller at home to 1. FC Nürnberg. The visitors powered into a 3-0 lead within 20 minutes thanks to a quick-fire hat-trick by Slovakian international Róbert Vittek. Boris Zivković gave the home side hope before the interval, but Ivan Saenko claimed a fourth goal for Nürnberg. Marvin Matip and Lukas Podolski gave Köln reduced the arrears to a single goal and they were denied a dramatic equaliser when a free-kick by Albert Streit hit the post. Elsewhere, MSV Duisburg and Hannover 96 drew 0-0.
