Surprising start

The 48-year-old former Atalanta BC, US Lecce, Hellas-Verona FC and AC Venezia coach vacated the AS Roma hot seat on the eve of the 2004/05 season to nurse his wife through a serious illness. He then joined Fiorentina, initially signing a one-year deal with a 12-month extension option.
