Gera lands Hungarian award

The West Bromwich Albion FC midfielder Zoltán Gera has been named Hungarian football writers' Player of the Year for the second year running.

The Hungary captain, who wins the award for the second year running, topped the list on every single nomination sheet, registering three times as many points as Debreceni VSC's Tamás Sándor, who finished second, two points above Panathinaikos FC's Sándor Torghelle in third.

'Much improved'
"I'm glad so many people think my football is good enough to win this award," the 26-year-old Gera said. "I think my move to West Brom has had a major role in winning this prize because I have improved a lot here [in England]. If I'd had a chance to vote, I would have put Roland Juhász top of my list," he added. RSC Anderlecht defender Juhász was voted best young player after impressing for the Hungary Under-21s.
