Röber steps up at Partizan

Jürgen Röber has been appointed coach of Serbo-Montenegrin champions FK Partizan after Vladimir Vermezovic's recent departure.

Distinguished career
The 51-year-old German's distinguished playing career took him to Werder Bremen, FC Bayern München and Nottingham Forest FC during the 1970s and 1980s, and his subsequent managerial record includes spells at VfB Stuttgart, Hertha BSC Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg.

Röber optimism
Partizan were recently eliminated from the UEFA Cup by Israeli side Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC and are third in the First League. But Röber is confident of improving the Belgrade club's fortunes, saying: "This team has huge potential and my ambition is to win the league. It is vital to maintain discipline, work hard and play entertaining football."
