Cos steps down at Alavés

The news comes two weeks after chairman Dmitri Piterman hinted that 36-year-old Cos would be offered a one-year contract extension. Piterman has since decided that Cos will not be in charge next term, although he may be given a different role at the club - possibly as assistant to the chairman. Technical secretary Rafael Monfort is tipped to replace Cos. Monfort acted as assistant to Cos during the final weeks of the campaign. Alavés, the 2001 UEFA Cup finalists, finished third in the Segunda División to end a two-year exile from the top flight.
