News round-up: Deportivo Alavés signed a winger while IF Elfsborg strengthened their goalkeeping department.

Sweden's IF Elfsborg have signed goalkeeper Håkan Svensson after No1 Johan Wiland was ruled out for two months with a broken arm. The 35-year-old former Halmstads BK and AIK Solna player joins on a free transfer after his contract expired at Cypriot club Enosis Neon Paralimni FC.

Eredivisie newcomers Sparta Rotterdam have managed to keep hold of Ricky van den Bergh after the striker signed a two-year contract extension. The 24-year-old scored 22 goals as Sparta won promotion back to the Dutch top flight. The news is a boost to Sparta after Danny Koevermans and Riga Mustapha, who contributed 64 goals between them last season, joined AZ Alkmaar and Spain's Levante UD respectively.

In Portugal, UD Leiria have completed the capture of 26-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Fernando Büttenbender Prass from Coritiba FC, while SC Braga have allowed Henrique to join second division team Leixões SC on loan for the forthcoming campaign.

English Premiership newcomers Wigan Athletic FC have agreed a new two-year contract with full-back Steve McMillan. "It's great news because he will be a key part of our squad," manager Paul Jewell said. The 29-year-old joined Wigan four years ago from Motherwell FC.

R. Standard de Liège have extended the contract of Belgian youth international Landry Mulemo by 12 months until the summer of 2008. The 18-year-old defender has spent the last two seasons on loan at K. Sint Truidense VV and will return there for the 2005/06 campaign.

FC Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek have completed the double signing of striker Kristopher Andersen and midfielder Sofiane Zaboub. Andersen, son of former Danish international Henrik Andersen, arrives from second division KAS Eupen on a two-year deal, while 22-year-old Frenchman Zaboub, previously with AS Saint-Etienne and Modena FC, has penned a one-year deal with an option for a further season.

Finally to France, where OGC Nice have loaned 26-year-old defender Thibault Scotto to Ligue 2 side Amiens SC for the campaign ahead.
