Cup success
The forward played for SSC Napoli and Parma FC in Italy before moving to Chelsea FC in 1996 for €6.5m. Voted the greatest player in Chelsea's history, Zola scored the winning goal in the 1998 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final and lifted two FA Cups with the Londoners prior to returning to his native Sardinia in 2003.
Family first
Zola's first campaign with the Rossoblù was a huge success as Cagliari ended a four-year exile from Serie A by gaining promotion, following it up last season by avoiding relegation. "It was not an easy decision to take but I felt I had to dedicate my time to the things I could not do during my professional career, like spending more time with my family," said Zola, who was capped 35 times by Italy.
