Veteran goalkeeper Alberto López has clinched a one-year contract extensión at Real Sociedad de Fútbol. The 35-year-old has spent his entire career with the Basque club but is now second-choice behind Asier Riesgo.
Dutch outfit AFC Ajax have signed 18-year-old forward Derk Boerrigter from Eredivisie rivals FC Twente on a two-year contract. The Dutch Under-19 international will link up with Ajax's youth team at the start of next season.
Elsewhere in the Netherlands, RBC Roosendaal have extended the contracts of goalkeeper Erwin Friebel and central defender José Fortes Rodriguez. The 22-year-old Friebel made his Eredivisie debut this season while Fortes Rodriguez, 33, joined during the winter break from AZ Alkmaar. Both will remain at Roosendaal until summer 2007.
Jan Willem van Dop, 44, has been appointed chairman of FC Utrecht, succeeding Martin Sturkenboom who will remain at the club in an advisory capacity until next season's winter break. Van Dop arrives from Feyenoord where he worked for nine years as general manager.
Bundesliga side DSC Arminia Bielefeld have signed German U21 international Heiko Westermann from second division SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Arminia have been forced to act by the impending departure of three key players - Delron Buckley to BV Borussia Dortmund, Patrick Owomoyela to Werder Bremen and Ervin Skela to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Arminia coach Uwe Rapolder, meanwhile, has agreed to take charge of newly-promoted 1. FC Köln.
Remaining in the Bundesliga, Bayer 04 Leverkusen have awarded a four-year contract to 16-year-old striker Tevfik Köse. The Turkish youth international, currently playing in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Italy where he has scored five goals in three games, has already turned out for Leverkusen's U19 side.
Portuguese SuperLiga outfit Vitória FC have signed 21-year-old defender José Fonte from second-division FC Felgueiras, while midfielder Manuel José is set to leave the club. Meanwhile, 24-year-old midfielder Miguelito of Rio Ave FC is joining CD Nacional, according to Nacional's chairman, Rui Alves.
In Belgium, K. Sint-Truidense VV midfielder Abdoulaye Diawara is seriously ill with meningitis. The 22-year-old Mali international was taken to hospital on Sunday evening and briefly slipped into a coma before his condition stabilised. His team-mates and other members of staff at the Belgian First Division side have been given precautionary antibiotics and will undergo medical examinations shortly.
Denmark's Odense BK have awarded 22-year-old defender Michael Larsen a two-year extension to his existing contract which will keep him at the club until June 2007.
Aberdeen FC's Scottish international defender Russell Anderson has been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury in Sunday's 2-0 defeat by Celtic FC. Team-mate Kevin McNaughton could also miss Aberdeen's two remaining matches after being injured in the same game.
The Scottish Football Association has paid tribute to former referee Tom Wharton, who has died aged 77. The Glasgow official, who was considered the leading referee of his generation, and gave over 50 years of service to football on and off the pitch, took charge of the 1962 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final between Atlético Madrid and ACF Fiorentina. He was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit in Gold following 19 years on FIFA's Referee Committee.
