Hans Werner Moser got his reign as 1. FC Kaiserslautern coach off to a perfect start on Sunday as his side eased to a 2-0 win at DSC Arminia Bielefeld to virtually secure their Bundesliga future.
Jara departure
Kaiserslautern parted company with Kurt Jara by mutual consent on Wednesday, appointing Moser as caretaker coach but despite a lack of preparation, he began his reign at the helm is some style. Within 18 minutes of the kick-off, Carsten Jancker and Halil Altintop had given the side a two-goal lead after capitalising on some poor defending.
Defensive errors
Jancker struck only six minutes into the game after pouncing on a weak pass from Petr Gabriel, and Altintop doubled the lead 18 minutes later following another mistake in the Bielefeld defence. The win lifts Kaiserslautern to tenth, 13 points clear of the relegation zone while Bielefeld remain 12th.
Wagefeld double
In Sunday's other game, 1. FC Nürnberg recorded a vital 3-0 win against fellow strugglers FC Hansa Rostock thanks to two goals from Maik Wagefeld. The midfield player gave the home side the lead a minute before the hour and Marek Mintál doubled the advantage nine minutes later.
Five-point cushion
Wagefeld struck again two minutes from the end to lift Nürnberg five points clear of the drop zone, while Rostock stay second from bottom, six points adrift of safety.
