1. FC Nürnberg coach Wolfgang Wolf took all three points on his return to former club VfL Wolfsburg thanks to a Stephan Kiessling goal.
Wolf jubilant
The 47-year-old was in charge of Wolfsburg between 1998 and 2003 but with his current side Nürnberg battling against relegation there was no room for sentiments. Kiessling gave him reason to celebrate, scoring the only goal of the match on 63 minutes.
Important win
Nürnberg are now five points clear of the drop zone in 13th, while Wolfsburg’s hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Intertoto Cup diminished further as they remain ninth.
Blank equaliser
Elsewhere, VfL Bochum 1848 kept alive their survival hopes with a 2-1 win at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Martin Meichelbeck put the visitors ahead six minutes before the break but Stefan Blank equalised with a penalty 16 minutes into the second half.
Hero to villain
Bochum coach Peter Neururer sent on Mamadou Diabang four minutes later and he cashed in on a mistake from Blank to give his side the winning goal on 74 minutes. Bochum remain in the drop zone but are now within one point of safety, while Kaiserslautern stay tenth.
