Won comfortably
Cebanu has been in the post since February 1997 and won Sunday's election comfortably ahead of the other candidate, Anatoli Teslev, a former Soviet youth international. Cebanu collected 132 votes, while Teslev got only eleven. "We have done a great job for our football over the past four years," said Cebanu. "We will keep on going like that. We have a clear programme and we will stick to it."

Cebanu, born in 1955, played for FC Nistru Chishinau from 1972-86 and subsequently gained his coaching licence in Moscow before working at several clubs in Moldova and Romania. He was appointed general secretary of the FMF in 1996 before becoming president the next year.
