Budapest ceremony
UEFA honorary treasurer and Executive Committee member Dr Mathieu Sprengers attended the ceremony to inaugurate the mini-pitch in Budapest. The president of the Hungarian Football Federation, Dr Imre Bozóky, expressed his satisfaction about the creation of new pitches in Hungary to help promote and nurture the youth and grassroots sectors.
Under-nine game
After the handover, two Under-9 teams from the Újpesti TE and Vasas SC clubs played a game on the artificial turf at the Vízművek sports centre, adding to the spirit of the occasion.
Better facilities
Dr Sprengers emphasised that UEFA was determined to reinvest revenue from competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and UEFA European Championship in the game's grassroots. "We must create better facilities for youth players - as they cannot simply play football in their surroundings or in the streets as they did in my childhood."
Prototype offer
UEFA's HatTrick Board has decided to offer a prototype mini-pitch to each UEFA member association to commemorate its Golden Jubilee. The mini-pitch in question should be installed near to the association's headquarters and possibly close to, or on the premises of, a school.
