Supporter dies in Leiria

The death of a fan at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa overshadowed the 12th round of the Portuguese SuperLiga.

Fangueiro scores
Carlos Manuel Fangueiro got the only goal of the game as Benfica, who lost for only the second time in the league this season, missed out on the chance to replace Boavista FC at the top of the table.

Boavista triumph
Boavista had moved into first place on Friday after beating SC Beira-Mar 3-0, thanks to two goals from Cafu and one from Zé Manuel, but FC Porto will regain the lead on Monday should they beat Vitória FC in Setúbal.

Wender winner
The European champions are on 22 points, one behind Boavista and level with Benfica and SC Braga, who beat CF Os Belenenses 2-1 away on Saturday. Henri Antchouet opened the scoring for Belenenses, but an own goal from Pelé followed by a Wender penalty gave Braga the points.

Sporting impress
Sporting Clube de Portugal also took advantage of Benfica's defeat by beating Moreirense FC 4-1 at home to move within a point of their Lisbon rivals. Mauricio Pinilla put Sporting ahead on nine minutes then set up Carlos Martins for the second.

Injury concerns
Sporting suffered a setback soon after when both players were forced off though injury, but although Afonso Martins headed past Ricardo to make the score 2-1, further goals from Hugo Viana and Leidson, deep into injury time, made sure of the points.

Marítimo fall
CS Marítimo dropped to sixth after they were unexpectedly held to a 1-1 home draw by Gil Vicente FC. Marítimo looked on course for victory when Leo Lima put them ahead from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Paulo Jorge had tripped Pena, but the Barcelos side levelled in the second half with a fierce shot from midfielder Luís Coentrão.

Penafiel win
Vitória SC climbed to mid-table after Nuno Assis scored the only goal to earn his team their first away win of the season at GD Estoril-Praia. FC Penafiel remain a point above them after defeating A. Académica de Coimbra 3-1. Rio Ave FC thrashed CD Nacional 4-1, with Delson, Paulo César, Pedro Franco and Saulo getting the goals for the home side.
