Draw with Udinese
Following yesterday's 2-2 draw at Udinese Calcio, the 57-year-old Mondonico said he felt he had lost the trust of the Viola fans, and invited the club to take a decision on his future. After a meeting with the coach, Fiorentina released a statement, which read: "We were very surprised with the decision of the coach because his future at the club was never in doubt.
Buso takes charge
"However, considering the importance of the club's plans, the town, the players and the fans, we decided that Mondonico could not continue his job under these circumstances. Sergio Buso will take charge of the team starting from today." Buso, 54, will be in charge for Wednesday's visit to Reggina Calcio but it remains to be seen whether the club view him as a long-term replacement.
One win
Mondonico led Fiorentina back up to Serie A after replacing Alberto Cavasin in the middle of last season. The Viola have begun the season by taking seven points from their first seven games, winning just once.
