Marseille move to the summit

Olympique de Marseille defeated nine-man Lille OSC 3-0 to climb to the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday evening.

Bamogo opener
Habib Bamogo put the home side in front seven minutes before half-time with a fine long-range strike but Marseille were unable to build on their lead until much later in the game.

Red cards
The visitors' hopes suffered a significant setback three minutes before the hour when defender Rafael Schmitz was sent off for a foul on Steve Marlet and Lille were reduced to nine players when another defender, Benoît Angbaw, saw red after a mistimed tackle on Péguy Luyindula.

Late flurry
French international Steve Marlet finally made the game safe for last season's UEFA Cup finalists with a last-minute goal before midfield player Eduardo Costa added a third three minutes into stoppage time to give the scoreline a one-sided look.

Marseille therefore join AS Monaco FC, 2-1 winners at home to FC Istres, and FC Metz, who defeated AC Ajaccio by the same scoreline, on six points, but lead the table on goal difference.
