Determined Nice deny Marseille

OGC Nice came from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw against Olympique de Marseille and deny the early Ligue 1 leaders a third successive victory in Saturday evening's early game.

Marseille, having defeated FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Lille OSC in their first two league games, looked on course for another win after international midfield player Benoît Pedretti volleyed in from 20 metres just after the interval.

Penalty equaliser
However, the home team, who were bottom of the 20-club table after losing their first two matches, fought back and equalised through a 62nd-minute penalty scored by striker Serge Die – the first league goal Marseille have conceded this season.

Die dismissed
However, the goalscorer was dismissed within seconds as, having already been booked in the first half, he removed his shirt in celebration and collected a second yellow card. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Nice held on for a draw.

AS Monaco FC can collect their third victory of the new season later on Saturday when they visit SM Caen while the other side on six points, FC Metz, are at home to champions Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.
