Article body
Sudden exit
The announcement comes as a shock as Petrov was only appointed by the Black Sea club in mid-June and leaves without taking charge for a single competitive match. Petrov, Spartak Varna's record goalscorer, becomes the second eve-of-season coaching casualty, with his dismissal coming 24 hours after that of PFC Nesebar's Nikolai Rusev.
Kurdov chance
Kurdov, who made his name with Levski in the 1980s, had been out of a job for three years and held his last coaching position at PFC Botev Plovdiv. He also had a brief spell at PFC Belasitza Petrich.
