Article body
Birmingham City FC manager Steve Bruce has signed a new contract that will keep him in charge for five years, the Premiership side announced on Friday.
Five-year deal
"I signed a new five-year contract this afternoon," the former Manchester United FC defender told the club's official website. "It was agreed six weeks ago, but these things take a little bit of time."
Promotion push
Bruce left Crystal Palace FC to take charge of Birmingham in December 2001 when they were in the second division and steered them to promotion via the play-offs the following season. They have finished 13th and 10th in their two seasons in the top flight and Bruce has strengthened his squad for the coming campaign with a string of new signings.
Summer signings
England international striker Emile Heskey joined for a club record €9.3m from Liverpool FC and Denmark winger Jesper Grønkjær signed from Chelsea FC, as have Dutch defender Mario Melchiot and striker Mikael Forssell, who is on loan at Saint Andrews for a second season. Muzzy Izzet, Darren Anderton and Julian Gray also joined on free transfers.
