Sérgio Conceição was sent off just eleven minutes into his R. Standard de Liège debut on Sunday but his new club nevertheless strode to their first win of the season against Cercle Brugge KSV.
Costly retaliation
Former FC Porto, S.S. Lazio and FC Internazionale winger Conceição, who signed for Standard two weeks ago, came on as a 56th-minute substitute but was dismissed soon afterwards for retaliating after a foul by Cercle defender Bram Vandenbussche. However, Standard won 3-1 with two goals from Mohammed Tchite and another from Alexandros Kaklamanos. Cercle's consolation came through Paulus Roiha.
Zoko off
KV Oostende are still searching for their first top-flight win after going down 2-1 at home at the hands of leaders Club Brugge KV. Ivorian forward Zephirin Zoko was sent off in the 70th minute for a second yellow card having removing his shirt when celebrating his equaliser, a superb header. Bruges had gone in front through Alin Stoica in the 54th minute and Brazilian Victor struck their winner nine minutes from time.
Solitary goal
RSC Anderlecht prepared for their UEFA Champions League return tie against SL Benfica in midweek by beating KSK Beveren 1-0 on their travels, new signing Mbo Mpenza scoring the solitary goal with a 54th-minute header. R. Excelsior Mouscron were the day's highest goalscorers, putting four past visitors K. Sint-Truidense VV without reply. Patrick Dimbala scored twice.
Delen decisive
Elsewhere, there were 2-1 home wins for KRC Genk and KAA Gent against KSC Lokeren OV and RAEC Mons respectively while undefeated KVC Westerlo won 1-0 away against R. Charleroi SC thanks to Jef Delen's third-minute goal. FC Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at home against RAA Louviéroise.
